"It's in your DNA to be a Filipino; how can you just turn your back on it?"
- Lea Salonga, world-renowned Filipino Broadway singer On the balcony of Aguinaldo's Kawit house last 12th of June 1898, the flag of the Philippines was proudly raised as our country marked the end of the three-century-regime of the Spanish government in the archipelago. After 122 years, we continue to enjoy this independence in our daily lives, being free to benefit the precious sceneries of the 7,107 islands our country has been blessed and the freedom of sharing the culture and talents that make us proudly raise our flag. Filipino nurses are considered as one of biggest hardworking and compassionate professional groups around the world. Wherever you are, continue to shine like the three stars in our flag and to give rays of happiness and hope just like the eight rays of the sun. In Canada, the month of June is officially celebrated as the Filipino Heritage Month, giving tribute to the rich Filipino culture and traditions we share in this country. Take a look at the motion filed by Snowdon's City Councilor Marvin Rotrand regarding the denouncement of violence and racism against the Asian community. The said motion will be debated this 15th of June during the Montreal City Council meeting. The said motion is available in English and French.
Racism and violence should not be tolerated for any origin. We should not be divided as we came from the same race, and that is the human race. It's officially the sixth moth of the year! It might be a tough situation we are having right now, but that doesn't mean that we couldn't have happiness in our lives. Drop some greetings to our June babies on the FNAQ's Facebook page to cheer them up on their respective special days!
