The first of July is a very important date in the Canadian history, as the Constitution Act of 1867 gave way to the formation of the Dominion of Canada from the then-separate colonies of the Province of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. Canadians continue to remember this special event, usually with big parades and parties, red shirts with maple leaf headDress and accessories, and sharing smiles to each Canadians from coast to coast. This year we might celebrate it differently, but the spirit of the Canadian kindness will always be the same. Happy Canada Day to all!
"It's in your DNA to be a Filipino; how can you just turn your back on it?"
- Lea Salonga, world-renowned Filipino Broadway singer On the balcony of Aguinaldo's Kawit house last 12th of June 1898, the flag of the Philippines was proudly raised as our country marked the end of the three-century-regime of the Spanish government in the archipelago. After 122 years, we continue to enjoy this independence in our daily lives, being free to benefit the precious sceneries of the 7,107 islands our country has been blessed and the freedom of sharing the culture and talents that make us proudly raise our flag. Filipino nurses are considered as one of biggest hardworking and compassionate professional groups around the world. Wherever you are, continue to shine like the three stars in our flag and to give rays of happiness and hope just like the eight rays of the sun. In Canada, the month of June is officially celebrated as the Filipino Heritage Month, giving tribute to the rich Filipino culture and traditions we share in this country. |
